Trekking in Kanchanjungha Region
(Combination of Kanchanjungha North and South; crossing Miring-La pass)
Kanchanjungha is one of the very remote and spectacular destinations in the Himalayas of Nepal. Country's 2nd and world's 3rd highest peak Kanchanjungha 8586mtr stands in the far north- east corner of Nepal bordering Sikkim (India) in the east and Tibetan plateau in the north. The area represents one of the richest bio and cultural diversity in the Himalayas. In the shed of snow peaks, rare medicine plants can be found while many species of oaks, flowers and the vegetation are found in down below.

Himalayan animals such as the snow leopard, mountain goat, musk deer, etc. roam the jungle around.
The Kirant people, who have their own lifestyle, culture and language, inhabit the area. They are one of the groups of people who established human civilization thousands year ago in the Kathmandu valley and east Nepal. The Kanchanjungha area is still one of the less explored zones. Trekking here starts from the mid-hill village of Basantapur (2200m / 7216ft) and leads to glaciers like, the Yalung glacier and Kanchanjungha itself.
