The average altitude is 1350 mtr / 4428ft from sea level and the area is 348 squire Km / 218 squire miles. During the mediaeval period the Name Nepal would represent only the Kathmandu valley while many other districts outside the valley were divided into many individual kingdoms. The three historic cities were independent countries until late 17th century.
